WELCOME TO OUR BLOG!

Roger's going to be responsible for pics and Brenda will do the writing so it's a combined effort. We've been trying to do this for a long time, but finally decided that we had to start somewhere or it would never get done, so here goes:

It's now the end of June, 2008, and we're currently in Arklahoma at our RV pad in the country. The pad is actually in Oklahoma, but we can SEE Arkansas from here and spend about as much time in Arkansas as we do in Oklahoma, so I've just adopted Arklahoma as our location.

It's been a rather eventful 2008 so far. I'd love to go into detail about all the places we've been, the people we've met and the things we've seen--but in order to get caught up to the present and proceed with a more current blog, I'll just post a synopsis of the year now and (maybe) go back in time with pics and stories later!

We left our pad in early January and headed west to Quartzsite, Arizona, where we met a group of our camping buddies for about three weeks of "boondocking" in the desert. From there we moved to Yuma for another three weeks in the desert. NOTE: For those who aren't RVers, "boondocking" means we were not in a campground and had no electricity or water hook-ups. But with our big onboard water tanks we can sit for up to 2 weeks before we have to go find a place to dump our waste and fill up with fresh water. Solar panels and a generator provide our electricity.

In late February we headed back east to Terlingua, Texas, and Big Bend National Park. We stayed there for about a week and it was time to move on toward the beach at Padre Island. To me, there's no place more enticing than the beach! So we spent a few weeks beach-combing and enjoying the island, surf and sand in the Corpus Christi area.

We left Rockport, TX, the morning of March 24 to move a little farther north to visit some friends at Magnolia Beach about 50 miles away. The little town of Tivoli has one flashing traffic light (yellow the direction we were going) and a 35 mph speed limit. Knowing how many small towns are "speed traps", Roger had slowed to the speed limit and just as we were starting to cross the intersection at the flashing light, a little ole lady driving a Cadillac pulled out RIGHT IN FRONT OF US! No time to get stopped, we hit the Caddy in the passenger side door--and tore up the front of our motorhome. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it definitely changed our plans for the next couple of months.

Instead of proceeding with our original travel plans, we headed to Red Bay, Alabama, for the manufacturer to do the repairs to the motorhome. It required an entire fiberglass front, new bumpers and a new Lexan shield for the front, all of which had to be manufactured. It also had to have the windshield, door, and a couple of compartment doors replaced and painted. All this took 2 full months. We left Red Bay the last week of May and came to our pad to spend a little time with family.

We'll be leaving here July 7 on our way to New Mexico, Colorado and (hopefully) cooler weather for the summer. Once on the way, I'll TRY to update this blog and get some pics posted in a timely manner......stay tuned.
