Old Churches and Old Cars

We've been staying busy, but much of our time lately has been just hanging around the park, visiting neighbors, working jigsaw puzzles (me), playing Scrabble (me), taking motorcycle rides (Roger) or taking naps (Roger). We have taken a few interesting day trips, though, since I posted last.

On one of our trips on some of the backcountry dirt roads, we saw a couple of Catholic churches that were built 200 years ago or more...amazing that they're not only still standing, but have been preserved so well. This one in La Trampas was built in 1760:El Santuario de Chimayo that was built in the early 1800's didn't allow photos taken inside and we somehow failed to get pics of the outside of the church, but these beautiful "Stations of the Cross" were on the grounds:


One day last week a group of four couples from the park went to Las Vegas--no, not the big one in Nevada, but the one about 80 miles south of us in New Mexico! We had lunch at a place called Charlie's Spic and Span Bakery and Cafe...a really good meal, but not (in my opinion) worth driving that far unless there's another reason to be there. But it was a fun day and there's also a SuperCenter and a Dollar Tree in town, so that made the trip worthwhile. Here's where we ate:

Then last weekend there was a car show in Taos with lots and lots of neat old cars. Here's just a sample of what was there:

The weather here has still been nice and cool with highs mostly in the 70's and lows about 40--a bit chilly at night and early morning, but quickly warming up with the sun. We've had a few short showers in the afternoon and quite a bit of wind, but overall about as nice as can be expected anywhere in August. Our time here is quickly fading, though, and we'll only be here for a couple more weeks before heading back to Arklahoma. Will try to post more before we leave.
