This 'n' that around Eagle Nest

Since today was just a rainy "hanging around" day, I decided this would be a good time to post a few pictures that I hadn't found time to include in previous posts. This first set was taken on the same evening looking first at the moon coming over the mountain one direction and the sunset the other direction:
On one of our excursions earlier this summer we drove to Dawson, NM...actually, there's nothing left of Dawson so where we went was to the Dawson Cemetery. The history of the town was quite interesting--it was owned by a coal mining company and when they closed the operation in 1950 the company sold the entire town and all the buildings were either moved or dismantled. There had been two major mine explosions in 1913 when 263 men were killed and another in 1923 which took the lives of another 123. Many of the markers (white steel crosses) in the cemetery were provided by the mining company for those men. Here are some photos we took the day we visited the area:
I celebrated my **th birthday this week and some of my friends here at the park surprised me (at SEVEN O'CLOCK in the morning!!!) with a delicious loaf of homemade "sticky buns"--the buns were so delicious that I forgave Marti, Johnnie & Mike for "almost" waking me up! Then Marti and Mike went with Roger and me to the Stakeout Grill in Taos which overlooks Taos Valley to further celebrate my birthday. Here are a couple of pics of us at the restaurant, plus a view of the sunset we were treated to:

I thought this was a neat picture of a butterfly we saw one day when we were hiking Clear Creek Trail...strangely enough, it flew away when we tried taking a picture on our way UP the mountain, but when we came back we saw it again and had more success the second time!I guess that's enough for now, but we'll be back in a few days when we have some more pics and stories to share.
