Chuckwagon Dinner and Life at the RV Park

Weather here at Weathers' and the Eagle Nest area has been GREAT since we've been here! It's been a bit warm (mid-80's) in the afternoon, but mornings are cool and crisp and evenings are just right for sitting around the campfire. These are our friends Linda & Bob from Newcastle, OK, that we met the first winter we went to Padre Island:Here are Tracey, Melba and Bobby:

Tuesday night a group of us from the RV Park met at Bobcat Pass (about halfway between Eagle Nest and Red River) for a great chuckwagon dinner and a fun night under the skies--can't say under the stars because it started at 5 p.m. and ended before dark. The evening started with roping demonstrations for the kids, horseshoes for anyone who wanted to play, and a cowboy singer/poet entertaining the crowd before and during the meal. Dinner consisted of a 16-ounce ribeye, baked potato, corn on the cob, beans, and some wonderful hot biscuits. The hot homemade cinnamon rolls topped off the meal just right, even though we weren't sure how we could eat another bite after the rest of the meal!

After dinner everyone moved out to the show area where we were entertained by a great fiddle player and the most perfect weather one could imagine for such an event. Unfortunately, the first picture we tried to take we discovered the battery in the camera was dead! Here are a couple of pics I took the day Tracey and the boys went horseback riding at the same place, though:

Tracey had her car loaded before we left for the dinner, so they were on the road by 7:00 Wednesday morning. They made the 700-mile trip home safe and sound before 9 p.m. It's really been really quiet here since they left and we've missed having them around—they all seemed to enjoy their vacation and we certainly enjoyed having them here.

We haven't done much since they left...I did laundry and went into Taos to the casino late yesterday with Marti, the RV park owner, and Roger went for a motorcycle ride with Mike yesterday afternoon. Today we've just “hung out”, played on the internet, and you're reading the results of a big part of the day.

We've had some requests for more pictures of the RV park where we're staying, so I've added a new album to Picasa with a link on the right of this page. It's labeled “Our NM Summer Hideaway”. If you're ever coming to this area, we'd highly recommend this park...the view, the weather, the rates, the other campers and—most of all—the wonderful park owner more than compensates for the lack of cement pads and/or picnic tables at each site!
