Busy days in Eagle Nest

We've been really busy since we arrived in Eagle Nest--so busy I haven't taken time to be on the computer much. Tracey, Mark and Timothy got here about a week after we did and we spent several days showing them around the area. Matthew was at Philmont Scout Camp for 12 days and joined them here after his backpacking trek in the mountains.

We celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary by having dinner at the historic St. James Hotel in Cimarron. What started as a simple family dinner ended up with a group of 44 from the RV park! It was such a good dinner and such an interesting place that we've already been back two more times. Here's a picture of us in the courtyard of the hotel:

Matthew and I took a Segway tour in Red River while they were here--and it was a blast!!! I can't wait to do it again sometime! Before we could take the tour we had to master the test course which was laid out on the parking lot:

This area has some fascinating old churches that have been preserved since the 18th century. This is the Church of San Jose Garcia which was built in the 1750's in Trampas, NM.

One day a group from the park took a trip to Trinidad, CO, for dinner at Rino's Italian Restaurant. While in Trinidad we took a trolley tour of the town...the highlight was seeing a mural made of ceramic tiles which was built by a 75-year-old nun who lived in Cincinnati, OH, at the time and completed at the local hospital when she was 80. This picture doesn't show the size or detail of the mural, but if you're ever in Trinidad, CO, don't miss seeing it in person.

Well, I've just scratched the surface of places we've seen since we got to New Mexico, but I want to get this posted, so I'll save some of it for another day. BTW, the temps here have been unusually warm this year--we've actually had some days that it was in the mid-80's! If you've been experiencing the 90's and 100's, you can understand just ONE of the reasons we're here!
