Morphy Lake and Tres Ritos

Wednesday Bobby, Melba, Roger and I drove through the mountains south of Angel Fire to Mora and the seven miles up (and do I mean UP!) to see Morphy Lake. The lake isn’t very big, but is absolutely beautiful! The road to it prohibits RVs over 18 feet long, but for those small campers, it would be great—almost every site has a view of the lake such as this:

On the road out of Mora, we saw these horses standing on the porch of an old deserted house….they looked as though they owned the place so we just HAD to take their picture!

From there we proceeded on to the Tres Ritos area to see where Bobby and Melba had camped with their family years ago. What had once been good free boondocking spots now have site numbers and a small fee to camp there. The campground was practically vacant with just a few tents and campers scattered around, so we found a table near a stream and enjoyed our picnic.

Making a circle, we came back through Taos, made a WalMart stop then returned to Eagle Nest in time to see this beautiful sunset, the perfect ending to a great day:
